There is so much uncertainty around the NDIS at the moment.
Changes. Reviews. New announcements. Questions about what services will look like in the future.
And with that uncertainty comes a lot of worry.
Participants are worried. Families are worried. Providers are worried. Support Coordinators, advocates and workers are worried.
I understand it. I feel it too.
I am very aware that Support Coordination may look very different in the future and may not exist in its current form beyond the changes planned for the coming years.
I cannot control what the NDIS decides to do. I can control what I do today.
I can choose to be an awesome Support Coordinator.
I can answer the phone.
I can listen when someone is overwhelmed.
I can fight for the right supports.
I can explain something that feels confusing.
I can follow up when someone has been waiting too long.
I can make sure the people I support know that there is someone in their corner.
And I can show up every day and do the very best job I can with the system we have right now.
Choosing where to put my energy
Getting anxious about what might happen in 2027 or 2028 won't make me a better Support Coordinator today.
So I have decided not to spend my energy worrying about a future I cannot control.
My clients need me now.
They need someone who is calm when things feel uncertain. Someone who will keep showing up. Someone who will focus on the person rather than all the noise happening around them.
And if the NDIS changes? Then when that day comes, I will look at what has changed, decide what I am going to do next, and move forward.
But until then, I am going to keep doing what I can control: Show up. Care. Listen. Advocate. Do the work. Be the person someone needs today.
Living with uncertainty
Sometimes living with uncertainty isn't about having all the answers.
Sometimes it's simply about asking:
"What can I do today?"
And then doing that well.
